The healing powers of the hands?

The human body contains energy meridians and energy centers called chakra. In each palm of the hand is to be found a chakra. Each finger has an energy ending too. The purity and power of the energy which is inside the energy endings of the fingers can convey vital life powers all over all over the body and through the fingers the energy may be projected outside of the body. There is a variety of metaphysical traditions where healers use their hands to convey healing energy or to break up toxic crystals imbedded in the tissues. Chinese doctors used to sense the strength of the energy radiation from hands to diagnose the people’s state of vitality.

Tokujiro Namikoshi was the first who invented shiatsu. When master Namikoshi was seven years old he amazingly cured his mother who suffered from rheumatism. The little Namikoshi used his thumbs, palms and fingers to apply pressure techniques to his mother’s body. In 1912 was the beginning of Shiatsu. Since than Namikoshi continued his studies and he lead to establish an anatomical and physiological theory of Shiatsu. He opened his school where he was training other shiatsu therapists. Due to his involvement in his work, in 1964 the Ministry of Health of the Japanese National Government recognized Shiatsu as a uniquely Japanese therapeutic treatment.

Firstly the word “Shiatsu” was used in 1900 by Tenpeki Tamai in one of his writings. Tokujiro Namikoshi had given the name of “Shiatsu Ryoho” to the therapeutic method he invented and later establishing the modern Shiatsu therapy.
